Immersive Technologies has been announced as the recipient of an award to supply mining equipment simulators to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Office of Mining Safety and Health (OMSHR).
Following a public tender process for continuous miner simulators, NIOSH assessed the technology, product features, feasibility, supportability and price of multiple simulation providers. Based on this rigorous assessment, Immersive Technologies was the chosen bidder.
NIOSH intends to use their IM360 simulation platform and JOY 14CM15 Lightweight Remote Conversion Kit™ to determine what information continuous miner operators needs to do their job, when they need it, and how it is best presented.

Monitoring operators in a live mining environment can be incredibly difficult, both from a data collection, and a safety perspective.

This is critical for assessing interaction with proximity systems and the dangers of the mining environment around them accurately,” Beesley says.
