Immersive Technologies announces the 13th annual Global Business Improvement Award winners. Category winners are selected from customers across 47 countries for their achievements in continuously improving operational safety, productivity and maintenance through strategic simulator-based initiatives. These projects demonstrate excellence in aligning people, process, and technology to push the mining performance envelope across any OEM make, this year’s winners operate mixed fleets including Komatsu, Caterpillar, Liebherr and Hitachi.
Shovel Category Winner: Rio Tinto Kennecott (USA), who completed a continuous improvement project targeting machine abuse and improved productivity of their P&H 4100 rope shovels.
Excavator Category Winner: Stevin Rock (UAE), which completed a continuous improvement project focused on production efficiencies for their Komatsu PC1250 fleet operators.
Safety Category Winner: La Cantera (Mexico), partnered with Immersive Technologies on a project which included creation of a focused training program for a Sandvik LH410 LHD, simulator baselining, and real-world data collection to identify operational improvement needs.
Sustainability/Environmental Category Winner: Tata Steel Noamundi (India), who partnered with Immersive Technologies to improve their Hitachi EX1200-5D excavator productivity and Komatsu HD785-7 haul truck fuel efficiency.
Truck Category Winner: Copper Mine (Chile), which partnered with Immersive Technologies for a haul truck-based Continuous Improvement Project targeting spot times on their Caterpillar 793 trucks under P&H 4100 shovels to maximize yield, while ensuring safe and responsible production.

Immersive Technologies is pleased to announce the winners of the Global Business Improvement Award 2018. Marking the tenth year in which Immersive Technologies recognizes the most outstanding real results achieved by mining companies utilizing simulation as a key driver in the business improvement process.
Underground Winner: Codelco utilized simulation to conduct a baseline training needs assessment of their LHD and Longhole Production Drill Rig operator workforce. The insights from the initial operator assessments facilitated the deployment of a strategic training program, targeting specific operator behaviors. Results achieved include a 49% improvement in LHD and a 56% improvement in jumbo operator behaviors related to safety, production and unscheduled maintenance costs.
Surface Winner: Peabody Energy targeted multiple objectives related to safety, haul truck spot times, and equipment abuse events that lead to unscheduled maintenance. Peabody and Immersive Technologies partnered on a Managed Service solution. Results achieved include an 11% spot time improvement and a reduction of 36% in operator induced machine abuse events which led to cost avoidance savings.

The annual award for mining companies using simulation for equipment operator optimization and business improvement progressed this year, recognizing global winners for surface and underground mining environments based on their improvements achieved during 2017.
Underground Winner: NEMISA, the largest underground miner in Mexico, was awarded for their unprecedented results achieved during 2017 at their two mines: Cobriza and Dolores.
Surface Winner: DTP Mining in partnership with Randgold Resources at Gounkoto Gold Mine undertook an initiative to invest in their operator workforce development by deploying a training simulator with significant results.

Rio Tinto Marandoo has received Immersive Technologies' 2015 Global Business Improvement Award for improved cycle time, machine uptime and savings in training during the introduction of a new truck type. The team at Marandoo followed a six sigma methodology to address the integration, with simulators from Immersive Technologies used to measure and improve operator skill and behavior.

Kiewit Mining Group of the USA and PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA) of Indonesia jointly received Immersive Technologies’ Global Business Improvement Award for 2014. Kiewit reported independently assessed transmission savings of one million dollars and an 11% increase in productivity while eliminating 97% of operator errors. PAMA achieved a 42% reduction in equipment damage and 16% productivity improvement along with successful fuel reduction initiatives this year.

Xstrata Coal New South Wales was awarded the inaugural 2012 Global Industry Sustainability Award for Mine Operator Training at a recent User Group Forum hosted by Immersive Technologies in Melbourne, Australia.
The award recognizes achievements made in the continual improvement of safety, efficiency and environmental protection via the collaborative development and application of advanced training technologies in the global mining industry.

Syncrude's Mildred Lake and Aurora mining sites received the Immersive Technologies' 2011 Business Improvement Award for outstanding results with its simulator-based operator training program.
Syncrude used its simulator-based operator training program to reduce production loss, improve equipment availability and advance operator safety initiatives. The Canadian oil sands company now has the ability to measure effectiveness of its training curriculum and program. Syncrude was chosen as the 2011 recipient of this award from more than 200 Immersive Technologies' mining customer locations in 32 countries.
